Cousin Lane
This existing office building, located on Cousin Lane next to Cannon Street Station and close to the river Thames, was built in 1983. Admiral Recruitment, acquired the 330 square meter building in 2009 intending to fit out the shell to provide offices arranged over 4 floors.
The client’s brief was to provide 3 key elements: Interview spaces for temporary and permanent staff, and in-house administration space.The building’s proximity to a container storage facility required the design to adopt an introspective quality. This was achieved through translucent back-lit screens constructed in front of the existing walls and strip windows. These walls are punctuated with cut-outs which provide recesses for storage, which also frame key views towards the river and the street.
The client’s brief also required the entrance to be reconfigured to provide greater presence with the street at ground floor level.
