London Coliseum

The restoration works to the London Coliseum, built in 1904 and designed by renound theatre architect Frank Matcham, were carried out in 2 phases.

The works involved the complete restoration of this Edwardian Grade II listed building - home of the English National Opera company.

Red Squirrel directors Miles Griffies and Carl Ward were both involved in this project whilst employed by Arts Team@RHWL

Miles was the zone architect responsible for the front-of-house foyer, and bar spaces. Significant structural and architectural modifications were carried out in these areas enlarging the foyer spaces and providing much needed improved circulation.

A new balcony level was reinstated with a glazed barrel vault roof providing additional bar and foyer space with a winter garden providing views overlooking Trafalgar Square.

The works were completed in 2004 in time for the theatre's centenary celebrations.
